Diana is the Roman goddess of the hunt, the moon, and nature, often associated with wild animals and woodland settings. She is also a protector of women and children, particularly during childbirth. Equivalent to the Greek goddess Artemis, Diana is usually depicted as a young, athletic woman carrying a bow and arrows. Independent and fierce, she valued her freedom and chastity, often wandering the forests with her nymph companions. As a lunar deity, she was also linked to the cycles of the moon and was revered in both rural and urban worship throughout ancient Rome.
