In Norse mythology, the Goddess Hel, also known as Hela, rules over the realm of the dead, also called Hel. She is a complex and mysterious figure, often depicted as half-living and half-dead. Hel is the daughter of Loki and Angrboda and is said to have a half-blue, half-flesh complexion. As the ruler of the underworld, she receives those who have died of old age or illness. Hel is described as solemn and somber, reflecting the realm she presides over. While seen as a harbinger of darkness, Hel is also associated with healing and renewal. Her presence serves as a reminder of the cyclical nature of life and death, offering a unique perspective on mortality within Norse mythology.
