One of the most striking features at the Avebury Stone Circle is a mighty, chunky sarsen stone that stands along the West Kennet Avenue, a processional route leading into the heart of the monument. This massive stone, weathered by centuries of wind and rain, looms over visitors with an imposing presence, its surface etched by time and lichen. Likely erected around 2500 BCE, it may have held ceremonial or symbolic significance, guiding ancient peoples toward the sacred center of Avebury. Its size and placement suggest it was more than just a marker—it was a silent witness to rituals, gatherings, and the deep spiritual life of Neolithic Britain.
